Why Montessori

Montessori Philosophy:

Montessori education works towards the development of the whole child, to help each child to reach his/ her full potential in all areas of life, so children become positive, confident and responsible individuals, lifelong learners and problem solvers.

A Montessori environment teaches children a positive, "I can do it" attitude that will ensure their future success in all aspects of their life. The main purpose of a Montessori school is to provide a carefully planned, stimulating environment which will help the child develop an excellent foundation for creative learning. The specific goal of the Montessori philosophy is to develop positive attitude, self-confidence, concentration, curiosity, initiative, persistence, inner security and Sense of order in the child.

Dr. Maria Montessori based her method on her observations and understanding of the child as he/she is, not as adults think he/she should be. She devised an environment and teaching method, which respects and gives dignity to the young child. The method is designed to take advantage of the child's sensitive periods those times when he/she is keenly receptive to specific areas of learning.

According to Dr. Maria Montessori, children under six years old have an "absorbent mind" and "sensitive period". They absorb knowledge effortlessly from their environment when provided with the right kind of activities at the right time. They explore the outside world with their senses-by touching, seeing, hearing, smelling and tasting. The concrete, hands on experience help them to define abstract concept.Dr. Montessori believed that in order to develop to the fullest, the child must have a special kind of freedom, which can only be achieved through order and self-discipline.
